About Planetica & How to Use It

Planetica is a free web space simulator that creates your very own planetary system from just your name and birthday. Explore your planets in 3D, customize them, and publish them to the Milky Way to share with others.

What is Planetica?

Planetica is a website that uses your name and birthday as a seed to create a one-of-a-kind planetary system. A single star sits at the center, with several planets orbiting it. Everything from the star's spectral type and brightness to each planet's orbit and temperature is calculated right in your browser.

The calculations follow fixed rules, so the same name and birthday always produce exactly the same system. The planets you make today will still be waiting for you months from now. Keep in mind that every planet created here is imaginary: the numbers follow plausible laws of physics, but these aren't real objects in space.

Getting started

  1. Enter a name and birthday on the first screen. A nickname works fine too.
  2. Press the create button and a system of a star and planets appears instantly.
  3. Tap a planet to fly in close and see oceans, clouds, ice, rings and moons in 3D.
  4. Open Planet story to read a short tale about that planet.
  5. In the Adjust tab, change temperature, oceans, atmosphere and more to customize your planet, or trigger events like an asteroid impact.
  6. Like what you see? Share it as a card image or a link, and if you want, Publish to the galaxy to show it to everyone.

Key features

Publishing to the galaxy

Your system is placed in the Milky Way next to a real star in your birthday constellation. The galaxy map shows the 13 zodiac constellations the Sun actually passes through (including Ophiuchus), and which constellation your system lands near is decided by your birthday's astrological sign. The star it sits beside within that constellation is chosen at random.

When you Publish to the galaxy, your system is listed under your nickname in the shared galaxy that everyone sees. Others can visit, tap the heart (♥) or leave a note, and you can see who has stopped by. Publishing is optional, available only to people aged 14 and over, and limited to one system per account or browser. Sign in with Google to manage your published system from other devices too.

Today's cosmic fortune and missions

In the Today tab you'll find Today's cosmic fortune, which changes every day, plus three daily missions. The fortune is just for fun. Complete all the missions to earn star shards, and keep it up day after day to build your streak.

Privacy

The name you enter is never sent to a server; it's used only inside your browser. Share links don't contain your name either, though anyone who opens the link will see the very same system. Just remember that if you publish to the galaxy, your nickname and birthday become visible to others. You can find more details in our Privacy Policy.

FAQ

Q. Is it really free?

Yes, Planetica is free to use.

Q. Is it safe to enter my name?

Your name is never sent to a server. It's only used inside your browser to calculate your system, and it isn't included in share links either.

Q. Will the same name and birthday always give the same system?

Yes. No matter when or on which device you enter them, you'll get the same system.

Q. What if someone has exactly the same name and birthday as me?

You'll both get identical twin systems. In the galaxy, they're placed beside different stars within the same constellation.

Q. Do the planets I create actually exist?

No. They're all imaginary. Numbers like temperature and distance follow plausible laws of physics, but they aren't values from real objects in space.

Q. Can I make more than one system?

On your own device you can make as many as you like and see the list in My page. However, you can publish only one system to the galaxy per account or browser.

Q. Do I have to sign in to publish to the galaxy?

Signing in with Google is optional. If you sign in, you can manage your published system from other devices too. Publishing to the galaxy is available only to people aged 14 and over.

Q. Why is my system near that constellation?

Because it's placed beside a randomly chosen real star in the constellation that matches your birthday.

Q. Things are slow or choppy.

Planetica uses a lot of 3D graphics, so it can be heavy on some devices. Try lowering the quality level in Graphics settings. Using an up-to-date browser also helps.

Q. Can I install it like an app?

Yes. Choose Add to Home Screen from your browser menu and you can open it right away like an app.

Q. Should I trust Today's cosmic fortune?

The fortune is just for fun. Read it lightly and enjoy it along with your missions.
